Huaraz & the Cordilleras month by month, when to go
The best weather and the best time to visit Huaraz and the Cordilleras?
It is relative now. Once upon a time, “Huaraz Trekking and Climbing Season” was very much May to September, but as in much of the world the weather has changed and the seasons are not as marked as they once were.
January & February
Everyone thinks that those months are very wet in this part of Peru but not always. The last few years around Huaraz and the Cordilleras, there has not been much rain at all much to the dismay of farmers. There have been many lovely warm days and very few tourists.
March & April
Normally a nice time of year. The whole landscape is green after the rains. You can certainly expect to still get some rain, but it usually rains in the afternoons.
May to September
This is the ideal time to come to Huaraz and the Cordilleras as this is typically the dry season.
There are many fantastic festivals at this time to see, especially May, June, July and August which are the busiest months.
October
A nice time of year. Getting quieter, not too cold and not too hot. Plenty of sunshine during the day.
November
Quiet, it has been fantastic the last three years, maybe a small amount of rain but generally sunny.
December
Very quiet, it does rain, but generally in the afternoon with sunshine in the morning.
